World Championship snooker - 1st Round draw
Ronnie O’Sullivan and Ding Junhui have both been eased for the World Championship after the two favourites were drawn together in the first round.
The pair, two of the game’s most talented players, met in January’s Masters final at Wembley, O’Sullivan winning 10-3.
But the draw represents a tough challenge for 31-year-old O’Sullivan, twice winner of the competition, and he’s out to 7/2 market leader with Sporting Odds while Chinese teenager Ding is 7/1 second best.
totesport have gone a stage further, pushing Ding right out to 10/1 and their spokesman Paul Petrie said: “It is a terrible draw for both players but we feel that it will be harder for Ding Junhui and he is now out to 10/1.
“The Crucible is a daunting place and to make your debut against the best player in the world is no easy task.”
Ding, the youngest ever winner of three ranking titles, qualified for the televised stages of snooker’s most famous event for the first time by winning his qualifying match against Mark Davis.
It’s then double figure prices about the rest which brings in Stephen Hendry who looks to have a decent chance in the bottom half of the draw and opens up against David Gilbert.
In other matches, defending champion Graeme Dott (20/1 with bet365) takes on 100/1 outsider Ian McCulloch while 2005 champion Shaun Murphy (12/1 with Sporting Odds) tackles highly-rated youngster Judd Trump (66/1 with bet365).
The event starts at the Crucible on April 21 and continues until May 7.
