Political Betting - Bookies faces 100K payout for 2007 election
Bookmakers William Hill face a potential six figure payout if Gordon Brown opts to call a snap General Election, and have halved the odds about that happening from 4/1 at the start of the weekend, to 2/1 favourite.
‘We have never seen a gamble like this before on the date of a General Election and are now looking at a six figure payout if Gordon Brown does as many political insiders are anticipating and goes for an early Election’ said Hill’s spokesman Graham Sharpe.
Hills now also make 2008 and 2009 2/1 chances to be the year of the next General Election, with 2010 or beyond out to 6/1.
Labour are 4/7 favourites to win the General Election whenever it takes place with William Hill who make the Conservatives 5/4 and the Lib Dems 80/1.
The chances of a Hung Parliament are rated at 6/4.
2/1 for Election will take place this year
Following Gordon Brown’s Party Conference Speech which pointedly failed to mention the date of the next General Election, bookmakers William Hill are still offering odds of 2/1 that it will take place this year.
Hills are also offering 7/1 that he will go to the country this year and lose; and 3/1 that he will go to the country this year - and win.
‘Brown did nothing to dampen the speculation about the date of the General Election and punters are still pouring cash on it being this year, giving us a potential six figure payout should that be the case’ said Hill’s spokesman Graham Sharpe.
Hills are offering 4/1 that Brown will call an Election on the same day that David Cameron makes his main speech to the Tory Party Conference next week.
Meanwhile, Hills now offer 7/4 that the next Election will be in 2009; 5/2 that it will be in 2008 and 5/1 in 2010 - and they have also slashed the odds that Brown will stay in office longer than Tony Blair managed, from 20/1 to 10/1.
Labour are now 2/5 favourites to win the next General Election with William Hill who make the Tories 7/4 and the Lib Dems 66/1. Hills offer 7/4 that there will be a Hung Parliament.
DAVID MILIBAND HAS been cut by William Hill from 2/1 to 6/4 favourite to succeed Gordon Blair as (permanent) Labour Leader.

‘The Lib Dems traditionally fare well in by-elections and as ninety per cent of the money we have taken for these two is being placed on that Party there is clearly an expectation that Sir Menzies Campbell’s leadership could be in for a boost next Thursday’ said Hill’s spokesman Graham Sharpe.
By-election betting:
Ealing-Southall:
4/5 Labour (were 8/13);
2/1 Conservatives (were 15/8);
3/1 Lib Dems (were 5/1).

8/1 for Boris Johnson to become London Mayor

BORIS JOHNSON 8/1 TO BECOME LONDON MAYOR.
Boris Johnson has been backed from 20/1 to 8/1 with William Hill to become the next Mayor of London. ‘Boris certainly has the type of charisma necessary to enliven the race to become the next Mayor of London and with him in the field there would certainly be serious opposition to Ken Livingstone’ said Hill’s spokesman Graham Sharpe.
The world has gone mad.

Harriet Harman 10/1 to be next Labour Leader
Harriet Harman’s shock victory in the race to become Deputy Leader has delighted bookmakers William Hill, who had slashed Alan Johnson’s odds as punters backed him as though defeat was out of the question.
‘Ms Harman was always third favourite, but at 7/1 she attracted no bets bigger than £200 and we are delighted with her victory which has saved us a six figure payout had Johnson won’ said Hill’s spokesman Graham Sharpe.
‘He went off as 1/ 3 red hot favourite ahead of Hilary Benn at 4/1.’
