Lewis Hamilton sparks £10 Million gamble

Posted in F1 Betting by info on the July 8th, 2007

Bookies predict £10m gamble sparked by new F1 sensation:

Lewis Hamilton is 11/10 favourite to win the British Grand Prix and 4/9 favourite to win the World Title with bookmakers William Hill who predict that his impact on F1 will produce the first ever £10m betting turnover for a Grand Prix.

‘The good news for bookies is that Lewis has transformed F1 into a major betting sport and could well help boost betting turnover on this race to a record breaking £10million – but the bad news for bookies is that if he wins it we will take our biggest financial hit on a Grand Prix for many years – in percentage terms it will be as bad a result as Frankie Dettori winning the Derby a few weeks ago!’ said William Hill spokesman Graham Sharpe.

‘One of our clients, a gentleman from Kent, ‘discovered’ Lewis four years ago when he staked £100 on him to become World Champion at odds of 100/1 – he is set to collect £10,000 as a result. Hamilton is also a 1/12 certainty to win this year’s BBC TV Sports Personality of the Year Award.’

Hills make Raikonnen 9/4 second favourite for the race, with Alonso 4/1 and Massa 6/1. Hills offer 7/1 that ANY other driver will win.

Lewis Hamilton is now 4/9 favourite to win the World Title with William Hill, who also offer 5/1 Alonso; 6/1 Raikonnen; 7/1 Massa.

2/5 McClaren;
7/4 Ferrari.

‘Whatever price we offer, punters will rush to back him to win, and he is still just a 5/2 chance to start from pole position in the race itself’ said William Hill spokesman Graham Sharpe.

Hills make Hamilton 1/ 2 favourite to win the World Title and also offer 9/2 Alonso; 11/2 Massa; 13/2 Raikonnen.

With uncertainty surrounding the developing situation regarding the alleged ’spying’ activities between Ferrari andf McClaren, bookmakers William Hill have confirmed that they will be settling bets on the outcome of the F1 World Title and the Constructors’ Championship on the basis of how the standings are at the time of the podium ceremony on the final day of the season.

‘Any inquiries or investigations which go on beyond the final day of the season will not be taken into account for betting purposes, but any punishments or points deductions which might be levied before the final day of the campaign WILL count for betting purposes’ said Hill’s spokesman Graham Sharpe,’In a way it is like the current West Ham- Sheffield United situation.

Were West Ham now to be relegated it would not affect bets which were placed on the outcome of last season’s Premiership - people who backed Sheffield United to go down and West Ham to stay up have already been paid.’

Posted in F1 Betting by info on the April 12th, 2007

On the back of the arrival on the F1 scene of rookie driver Lewis Hamilton, bookmakers William Hill have seen a huge surge of interest in their Grand Prix betting, with up to three times the turnover for each race so far compared to last year.

Hamilton is very much the people’s favourite starting the first two races as a £50,000 loser for the bookies, and Hills expect a six figure liability for this weekends Bahrain GP, and a million pound payout should Hamilton win the British Grand Prix later in the year.

“Lewis Hamilton has single handedly injected a new lease of life into Formula One betting, but the bookies will be the only Brits not cheering him on at Silverstone, said Hill’s spokesman Rupert Adams.
